I can see the sun just above the horizon ... I can feel that we are almost there. The armadillo is slow-ly getting used to daycare facility at my club. I dropped off the armadillo and the sumo baby this morning. The armadillo, being the smart whip he is, knew where we were and was already starting to whimper as we were heading to his area. As we got closer he started to cry. I tried to hurry along and put his snack bag away, and then head to the board to write his info. My mama friend was meeting me there and she was dropping off her son too at the same time. I don't know if it helped or not but I tried distracting the armadillo by pointing out that his friend was there.
"Look armadillo, Oh-wen is there. Do you see Oh-wen?" The armadillo looked at him but still had a look of misery on his face. I started saying my goodbyes and my little boy started to cry. Thankfully one of the staff, whom I recognized, immediately picked up the armadillo and I was able to make my exit. The sumo baby, of course, was fine as usual. He was content as I left him in the exersaucer to play with the attached toys.
I was gone for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. I am gradually increasing my ability to stay out a little longer every time. I might be able to make it so that I can take a shower too, but I'm not pushing it. It's still a little too early. I went in and headed back to the armadillo's area. Whew! He was actually happy to see me and didn't cry at the same time. Though I did see his lip quiver I was quick to distract him. As I entered the area he instantly wanted me to follow him to a police motorcycle ride on toy that he liked. He was showing me how it worked and I was watching him ride it. One of the girls there told me that he did really well. She was familiar with the armadillo so she knows his shaky history. She mentioned that he adjusted well and was playing with the toys. Nice!
"Are you ready to go armadillo?"
"No."
"Are you sure? ... Do you want to go now?"
"No."
"Ummm ... okay"
So we stayed for a few minutes more then we said goodbye to my mama friend and her son Oh-wen. Then we picked up the sumo baby and headed out.
"Did you have fun armadillo?"
"Yes."
I don't know if he truly understood me but I didn't care. It was all I needed to reassure me that he was doing just fine. He survived.
