How tragic ... actor Bernie Mac passed away today at age 50.    50 people ??!!???!      He was so young.   I thought he was funny as hell.   

John Edwards ... How Disappointing

Not that you were my favorite Democratic candidate but to read about you FINALLY confirming this affair, after months of denial is extremely disappointing.       Can't say anything more than what has already been said, but imagine if you were the Democratic Presidential nominee.      Could you imagine the fear and confusion this country would absorb from this lie?    It's almost too scary to contemplate.      

Next time, base your possible career-breaking decisions using the head above your shoulders, not the one in your pants.

Gambling Withdrawal

I have had a headache since returning from Lake Tahoe.    I think it's a gambling withdrawal symptom.    Lack of flashing lights, bells ringing and smoke filled air is making my head hurt.  Life is cruel.

Status is Everything

I'm not sure if this was mentioned previously but my husband and I are gambling junkies.    We love gambling, whether it be in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, or Cache Creek ... the both of us are there.     One of the greater perks is being a part of a rewards program.    You basically sign up with a hotel's rewards program and get a players card.     Based on your gambling habits (how much $$ you throw down) one accumulates points.     These points are  added up and based on your totals,  you can get comp points for food, free room, free show tickets, etc ...      As your totals get higher, your player status changes and that my friends, gives you more benefits.      Our current status allows us to move to the front of the line at restaurants, special check-in areas, preferred status for valet, cashier needs, etc ...      We figure we're going to gamble our money ... might as well get something out of it.

Oh yes, remind me to cash in my voucher for $100 ... CASH ... just all part of the rewards program.

Twilight

Ok, now that Harry Potter is over and done, it was time for me to get a new book series fix.   After browsing through Amazon, reading blogs, and walking through my local Borders store I decided to try the Twilight Saga from Stephenie Meyer.     At first I was a bit hesitant as it's a series involving vampires.   Okay I'm thinking, how good can it be?  I did the whole Anne Rice thing and gave up after the first book.    I mean, does a vampire really have the depth necessary for a strong character lead?     After reading the first book, Twilight, I decided yes, yes they do.      The whole premise of Twilight is the relationship between Edward, the handsome and sometimes complicated vampire and Bella, high school student and the object of his affection.      I won't give too much, but I found it so interesting the different take the author, Stephenie Meyer brings us on the vampire world.    It kept me captivated.     I love the story so much that I don't want it to end.  I am purposefully taking my time with the series so that I can stretch out my reading enjoyment.    I know I'll be devastated when it ends.        The last in the series I believe comes out on August 2 ... pretty soon!    I know I'll be placing my Kindle order soon! 

Do the Swim Strut

Yesterday was the start of swimming lessons for my oldest.   I think I was dreading it more than he was.   I was anticipating the onslaught of "I don't want to" or "Why?" or "I REALLY don't want to go" comments.    Which of course would be delivered in his best whiny voice.    But it actually went a lot better than I thought it would have.    As if on cue when I told him it was time to got to his swim lessons, which meant he had to get out of the little pool and go into another pool, that request was declined.     My son did not want to leave his BFF who was in the little pool.  But after coaxing him, gently to come out he did.   

Next he did even more convincing that he should try to do what his teacher, was asking him to do.    My oldest politely said "no" to each request.    Then after about 5 minutes of trying to get him to go in the water with his instructor, my oldest sees his daddy and tells Miss Swim Teacher, "I want to go by Daddy".   "Ok!" was Miss Swim Teacher's reply.    The oldest jumps to her arms and then they proceed to swim over to Daddy.    That was the ice breaker.  From then on, he was participating 100% and suprise surprise was actually having a lot of fun.    He even practiced what he learned in the little pool after his lesson was done.   

The oldest was the only one in his class because 2 students did not show up, so it was like having a private lesson.     The oldest did extremely well and I made sure that I told him every chance I had.   I clapped ... I shouted "Great Job!" ... I told him "You're awesome!".   I'm sure I sounded like the mom who obviously had the "My child is not a fish yet" child.    The other mommies around barely said a word to their children who were having lessons in the same pool.   Oh well, hell, I'm mighty proud of him and made sure he knew it.   

Ask me to put my head underwater and my reply will be "Do you know how long it took me to do my hair?!  Hell with that!".

What Did You Eat?

The other night I got sick from what I think was food poisoning.   I felt dizzy and nauseaous.  As always puking everything out makes me feel better, strange but true.    After the toilet worshipping I told husband about feeling sick.

H: You think it's something you ate?

Me: Possibly.

H: What did you eat?

Me: Japanese food.

H: What was it?

Me: Some bbq beef, sashimi (raw fish), shrimp tempura, broiled mushrooms/broccoli, rice, California roll, seaweed salad, garden salad, and miso soup.

H: Geesh, what didn't you eat?

Me: (inside voice) Remind me to puke in your lap the next time I feel like vomitting.

Lice Buddies

At my boys' preschool there were a couple of kids who had lice.  Yech.  Sorry but that's the first thought that pops in my mind.  Yech.   Even thinking about those tiny white creatures makes my head itch.   So of course the teachers let the parents know about the lice infestation so that we parents can go home and obsess on what items to launder.   Well a few days passed by and fortunately my boys are in the clear.   Is it wrong to say that I'm glad my children do not play with the lice infested kids?    Well in this case I think it is warranted somewhat.    So after a few days I noticed the infested kids being escorted back into their cars during morning drop off.   Come to find out that they were inspected again after coming back and found out they were still crawling with lice.   Yech.   My first thought is are the parents doing anything?    It wasn't as if they had a few creepy crawlers in their head, they were still infested, majorly infested.    The kids leave the school and I bring my children, warily of course.    Then I found out a couple days after that the parents try to bring the kids to school ... AGAIN, they are still found to be infested.   C'mon parents, do something!   

It's been a couple weeks now since they were first sent home and the kids were found to be lice-free, for now.  They're back in school playing with the other kids, but hopefully not mine.  Sorry, I know ... cruel.     But I can't help it, my head itches everytime I think about it.

Twilight!!!

The last time I got this excited about a movie being released is when they started with the Harry Potter series.    Now I have Twilight to look forward to.    If you haven't read the book and/or the series, give it a try.    It's not a worldwide bestseller for nothing.     I'm writing about this movie's release date of 12.12.08 in my calendar using pen!
